The South African Students Congress has learned with shock and sadness of the untimely passing of the former ANCYL Secretary General Cde Sindiso Magaqa. We are saddened by the fact that comrade Magaqa’ s passing comes after he sustained injuries following a shooting that took place in his hometown, allegedly with political involvement.
We are saddened because the polarised political situation in KZN has robbed the country of its future.
Cde Sindiso is one of the fearless young leaders to be produced by the movement, he stood by his views, and no amount of money have swayed what he believed in. Following his removal as the SG of the ANCYL, comrade Magaqa went back to his ANC branch and contributed immensely while his other colleagues formed a splinter organization.
He understood what it means to subordinate your personal interest to those of the organisation. As young people of this country, we have a huge responsibility to emulate the legacy that has been left by Cde Magaqa.
As Young people of this country, we must not despair but organize, agitate and continue with the struggle for economic freedom. We must illuminate comrade Magaqa. His ideas, dedication, and love for the people must live with us.
Comrade Sindiso Magaqa will be remembered for his steadfast commitment to the struggle for economic freedom and the total liberation of the toiling masses of our people.
We wish to send our heartfelt condolences to the family of Cde Sindiso Magaqa, the ANCYL, and the people of uMzimkhulu.
We call on government and law enforcement agencies to work with speed and bring the perpetrators to book.
